Dirk Ormel is a graduate from Leiden University in the Netherlands (Master in Public International Law, 2011). He started practicing as a lawyer in 2012 at a regional law firm in Curaçao, and moved to Aruba later that year to continue practicing law there. He has been admitted to the bar for the Dutch Caribbean (Aruba, Bonaire, Curaçao and the BES-islands) in 2012.
In 2015 he joined the Aruban law firm De Cuba Wever, and became partner at De Cuba Ormel Noordhuizen in 2021. Dirk Ormel has held a position in the Supervisory Committee for the Penal System from 2017 to 2019, and has been a board member and president of the supervisory board of Aruba’s Chronic Care Foundation (SABA) since 2017.
In 2019 he successfully completed an extensive post academic course at the Vrije Universiteit in Amsterdam in the field of Mergers & Acquisitions. In 2021 Dirk Ormel was elected dean (deken) of the Aruba Bar Association. As a lawyer Dirk Ormel focuses on advising corporate clients and is also active as a litigator.
